Metadescripton: If your dream is to work at Google, equally famous for huge, fast moving projects as legendary benefits (free food!) – find out how you can.
So you want to work at Google?
Google is the place of myth and legend for digital marketers, due to their amazing benefits; campus cafes, micro kitchens, onsite healthcare facilities and even a warm welcome for man’s best friend at some Google offices.
Who wouldn’t want to work at Google?
Route one – nepotism
A group of local ‘A’ level students were recently taken on school trip involving a visit to the Google Headquarters in San Francisco. The students were told ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’ the best way to get a job at Google is to get an internship there or failing that, know someone who works at Google who can recommend you – nepotism is very much smiled upon at Google HQ.
Route two – get bought out
Start your own marketing company, develop something as cool as YouTube ensuring Google are compelled to buy you out – you wind up working for Google without even so much as an interview!
Route three – GoogleCareers
If you don’t know a Googler or haven’t developed the next Instagram, here’s how to go about working at Google
- Check out the Marketing and Communications section in the Fields of Work section of GoogleCareers to see exactly what Google products you could be marketing
- Search the available jobs in GoogleCareers and match your experience, skill set and interests to a Google role you’d be excited about tackling in the future
- Hone
your CV and be specific; aligning your experience with the requirements on the
role description– there is no point in sending a generic CV to Google HQ
Make sure your achievements are boldly displayed on your CV to create the best first impression
- Apply to work at Google
- Prepare for your interview – you’ll be expected to answer the usual interview questions like ‘Why would you like to work at Google?” but you’ll also be asked about your Googleyness and how you:
- go about problem solving using data to make informed decisions
- lead using your communication and decision-making skills to get others to co-operate with you
- influence using your experience and how you’ll use that in the future to grow in future roles
For every question you can think of, actually write down several answers. You want your answers to spring to mind automatically in an interview so writing them down in advance should help.
Practice your answers aloud, to judge how long they are, hear how they sound and perfect the details to answer clearly and concisely in interview.
- Have interview one which will mostly likely be a ‘phone interview with a Google manager or a potential colleague for approximately 30 minutes, expect behavioral, hypothetical and marketing campaign questions covering role specific aptitude
- Attend interview two which will be onsite with around four Googlers from potential team mates and other cross functional team members —for about 30 to 45 minutes per person
- Start working at Google
